How to convert a salary to an hourly wage

Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. A full-time job of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary is $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour.

To go the other way, multiply your hourly wage by your weekly hours and then by 52. For example, $25 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 a year.

Annual salaryHourly (37.5 h/week)Hourly (40 h/week)
$40,000$20.51$19.23
$50,000$25.64$24.04
$60,000$30.77$28.85
$75,000$38.46$36.06
$100,000$51.28$48.08

The take-home figure shown above uses Ontario's 2026 rates. A $60,000 salary in Ontario leaves about $3,944.98 a month, or $22.76 for each hour worked. For other provinces, use our Canadian take-home pay calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How many working hours are there in a year?

At 40 hours a week it is 2,080 hours a year, and at 37.5 hours a week it is 1,950, counting all 52 weeks including paid vacation and statutory holidays.

What is the minimum wage in Canada?

There is a federal minimum wage for federally regulated workplaces, and each province and territory sets its own for everyone else. Rates usually change on April 1 or October 1, so check your province's official website for the current rate.

Should I include vacation pay?

For a salaried job your salary covers your paid vacation, so divide by all 52 weeks. Hourly workers usually receive vacation pay of at least 4% of their wages instead, depending on the province and how long they have worked for their employer.
