Image compressor
Make photos smaller for emails, websites and online forms. Choose a quality and maximum width, and download the results. Your images are processed on your own device and are never uploaded.
JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, as many as you like
How to make an image smaller
- Choose one or more images, or drag them onto the box.
- Pick a quality and, if you like, a maximum width. Resizing a large phone photo to 1920 pixels wide makes the biggest difference.
- Press Compress images, then download each result or all of them at once.
Is it safe?
Yes. This tool uses your browser to process the images. Your photos are not uploaded to any server, so nobody else can see them, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
Which format should I choose?
- JPG: best for photos and accepted almost everywhere.
- WebP: smaller files at the same quality, great for websites.
- PNG: keeps transparency and sharp graphics, but files are larger for photos.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a photo under 1 MB or 500 KB?
Set the maximum width to 1920 or 1280 pixels and the quality to around 70%. Most phone photos will then be well under 500 KB.
Will compressing reduce the quality?
Slightly, but at 70 to 80% quality the difference is usually invisible on screen. Keep your original if you might need to print the photo large.
Does it work on iPhone photos (HEIC)?
It depends on your browser. Safari on iPhone and Mac can open HEIC photos; other browsers may not. If a photo does not load, share it from your Photos app as a JPG first.
